President Barrow presents battle flag, bids farewell to Gambia Commonwealth Games team

The Gambian President, Barrow, has said farewell to the Gambia Commonwealth Games team.

At a ceremony held on Friday July 22, 2022, at the Statehouse in Banjul, Barrow presented the Battle Flag to the Gambian Athletics Team representing the nation at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

The president applauded the progress of Gambian sports and encouraged the athletes to put forth their best efforts to raise the country’s flag. He urged them to unite and serve as The Gambia’s ambassadors.

He cited the Gambia volleyball team, the current African Champions when he said that it is not the nation’s size but rather the will to succeed.

“The political will to support sports in The Gambia is very high, and I’m looking forward to your performance in the games; when you do well, it reflects back on me as President and The Gambia as a Country,” Barrow noted.

The athletes were accompanied to the Presidency by the Hon. Minister of Youths and Sports Bakary Badjie and officials of the sports fraternity.
