In a diplomatic farewell meeting today, President Adama Barrow received the outgoing British High Commissioner to The Gambia, His Excellency David Belgrove OBE, who came to bid his adieu after successfully completing his tour of duty in The Gambia.
The event, held at the presidential palace, was marked by expressions of gratitude, reflection on bilateral cooperation, and a promising outlook for future collaborations.
During the cordial meeting, H.E. Belgrove conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to President Barrow and the people of The Gambia for the warm hospitality and unwavering support extended to him throughout his tenure in the country.
He emphasised the significance of the strong bonds between the United Kingdom and The Gambia, which have been strengthened during his tenure.
The outgoing High Commissioner congratulated President Barrow and his government for their commendable efforts in consolidating democracy within The Gambia.
He specifically highlighted the significant progress made in the realm of constitutional reform and the dedicated implementation of recommendations made by the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC).
Speaking about the substantial contributions made during his diplomatic mission, H.E. Belgrove assured the Gambian government that the friendly cooperation between the two nations will persist under his successor.
He also expressed the UK’s continued commitment to supporting key sectors of The Gambia’s economy, with a particular focus on Tourism, Agriculture, and Industry.
This commitment includes aiding in the development of improved infrastructure to bolster these crucial sectors.
Accompanying the outgoing High Commissioner to the Presidential Palace were Mr. Martin Norman, Deputy High Commissioner, Ms. Jainaba Faye, Political Officer, and Ambassador Lang Yabou, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Their presence underscored the significance of the diplomatic relationship between The Gambia and the United Kingdom, reaffirming the strong ties that exist between the two nations.
